3 Reasons You Need A Band Website

With all the social platforms available for free these days, you might wonder why having a dedicated artist or band website is needed.

I see tons of musicians and artists say “Oh I just use Facebook” or “My IG page is good enough” Well I’m here to tell you it’s not enough.

With streaming platforms dominating how people consume musical content, using another free platform to host your message on isn’t going to financially help you out.  Yes these platforms are super important – don’t get me wrong. But they do not substitute as an artist website. Let’s look at 3 reasons why you need a website as a musician.

1. You Own The Online Space

I like to think of it this way:

  • Social/Streaming platforms are online space you rent
  • Your website is online space you own

This is important. When social media platforms come and go, algorithms change, and your post puts you in Facebook jail… These are all things out of your control. To top it off, you have absolutely no way of deciding what content people see on social media. You are constantly fighting for attention.

When you can direct fans to your own website, all of the noise is removed and they only see what YOU want them to see.

This is super helpful when releasing music, selling things, trying to grow an email list, or just working on getting more traffic to your blog. When people aren’t distracted with other things they are much more likely to commit what they are looking at to memory and take the action you want them to take!

2. You can Monetize Anything You Want

How are Spotify streams paying lately? Pretty good?

The benefit of having your own artist or band website is you can sell ANYTHING you want as experiences to your fans. Set up a live stream ticketed event. Offer special products. Actually SELL your music. These are all benefits you do not have with social media platforms or streaming services.

You will retain the most amount of money from sales when you sell things through your own platform.

3. It’s Professional

If you are truly serious about building your career you need your own website. When booking shows or festivals, or trying to get radio play or promotion the first thing people do is google your name. If all that comes up are social media pages the odds of them scrolling through your newsfeed to find the information they want is slim to none.

Your musician website is your own personal showcase. You need to have a place where industry reps can read your bio, check out your professional photos, listen to your music, and download your EPK all in one place.

The easier you make it for someone to find out about you and get what they need, the more likely they are to want to work with you!

Final Thoughts

Ultimately you get to make your website – well, you. It’s your space and you can do what you want with it.

Having your own branded artist website is crucial. Everything is online – so why aren’t you?
