I write a variety of genres such as: Country/Country Rock/Pop/Folk/Christmas/Children/Comedy, as well as traditional older styles of those genres for both male and female vocals. I am into writing catchy melodies and lyrics that people will remember for a long time to come. For example, look at the single charts in the UK on the run up to Christmas. Around 50% of the songs are Christmas songs and most of those have been sold to death over the years (even 'Rockin' Around The Chrstmas tree' by Brenda Lee and Bing Crosby's White Christmas ) re-entering the charts and on compilation albums, and yet they outsell all the modern stuff easily. Why? Because peope can relate to them and understand them. Publishers unfortunately don't get it, and just turn down perfectly hitworthy songs in favour of the modern trend, most of which disappear into oblivion, and only the one's with good old fashioned melody and lyrics stay around. Example of a great song in my opinion was 'Sweet But Psycho' by Ava Max, and hung around in the charts for over a year. All older adults prefer the older sounding stuff, which proves that just targeting 7-12 year olds is short lived and when a decent song comes along it shoves the regular modern stuff out of sight. Of course it's up to the artists to dare themselves, like Shakin' Stevens with his 60's style rock'n'roll in the 80's which made him the best seling artist in the UK of the 80's. Point proven.
